Wedged Stretcher Frames

All our canvases are stretched over kiln dried fir frames that are first contoured to ensure that the canvas floats over the top of the frame. Each frame bar is then mitred and grooved so they slot together without the need for underpinning or gluing.
Small wooden or plastic wedges can then be fitted into each corner of the frame. By simply tapping these wedges into the frame you can re-tension your canvas to achieve a perfect finish in any environment.
Why would I need to re-tension my canvas?
Canvas is a natural fibre and will react to differences in temperature and humidity. If placed in a humid environment the canvas will relax and when in a dry, cold environment, it will tend to contract. All our canvases leave us perfectly tensioned but we can never know the final hanging spot for the artwork so we aim to provide full flexibilty for your customers and ensure that wherever they hang their canvas they can make sure it stays perfectly tight.
